Shoal

How do you know when you are out of your depth? What happens next?

Shoal uses the Orkney legend of the selkies as a way to reflect on relationships between human and ocean. This dance is the first episode in a series of improvised dances that explore folktales as both a narrative structure and a physical practice. Made possible through a residency at the Domestic Performance Agency, this dance was created in collaboration with Athena Kokoronis, who served a meal of seaweed, sticky rice, sardines, and gin to accompany the performance.

Performed on June 3-4, 2016 at the Domestic Performance Agency, Brooklyn, NY
